The Time At Hand * - what lays 'around the corner' for The Great American Eagle (or would you rather not know?).
. This time or era has been referred to as "The Communication Age," among other falsely flattering titles, but what this time period or era truly is, is The Age Of Lies and Liars, Seduction, and Seducers, The Age Of Misinformation, Disinformation, the age of Indoctrination & Propaganda or Indoctrinating Propaganda, the age of Molding, Shaping, Seducing, Corrupting, Perverting, and Controlling Of The Multitudes, the Masses, via the skillful sophisticated manipulation of High-Tech Tools, Instruments, Technologies, and Techniques, most notably the electronic media.... This time or era could reasonably be referred to as The Age of Abominations. This time, this era, will culminate in the world-wide takeover by the Anti-Christ of antichrists, in the not distant future, & his establishment of a one-world government/new world order; the Anti-Christ's Fourth Reich will last for seven years, the last three & 1/2 years of which will make all evils of past generations & eras pale into relative insignificance by comparison!
With the exception of a scripture passage from the book of the prophet Jeremiah at the end of this chapter, the Scriptures contained in this chapter are collected from the books of the Holy Bible commonly referred to in these days as "the minor Prophets" or "the lesser Prophets." When Jesus the Christ walked this earth the books now designated as minor or lesser were grouped collectively with those which are now termed "the major Prophets" or "the greater Prophets," with all being referred to as "the Prophets." There are many scriptures in the books now termed "the major Prophets" or "the greater Prophets" which also refer to God's judgment, not only past, but pending/coming/...these scriptures are collected in other chapters of CBM's website, including in Son of Man, and O Jerusalem.
The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee: they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him. Shall I not in that day, saith The LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
For the day of The LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
Hear the Word of The LORD, ye children of Israel: for The LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of GOD in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish....
As they were increased, so they sinned against ME: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
...they have left off to take heed to The LORD. Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their GOD.
Therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.
They will not frame their doings to turn unto their GOD: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known The LORD.
The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound.
Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.
Set the trumpet to thy mouth, He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed My Covenant, and trespassed against My Law. Israel shall cry unto ME, My GOD, we know Thee. Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him. They have set up kings, but not by ME: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore HE will remember their iniquity, HE will visit their sins. I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception. Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!
Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house. I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
My GOD will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto HIM: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
Israel is an empty vine,...according to the goodness of the land they have made goodly images. Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: HE shall break down their altars, HE shall spoil their images. For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not The LORD; what then should a king do to us? They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
...Israel shall be ashamed of her own counsel. As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water. The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt. The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways: according to his doings will HE recompense him.
Therefore turn thou to thy GOD: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy GOD continually.
He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
Ephraim provoked HIM to anger most bitterly: therefore shall HE leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return unto him. When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel: but when he offended in Baal, he died. And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
Yet I AM The LORD thy GOD from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but ME: for there is no saviour beside ME. I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
According to their pasture, so were they filled: they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten ME. Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them: I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in ME is thine help. I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? I gave thee a king in Mine anger, and took him away in My wrath.
Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of The LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: HE shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels. Samaria shall become desolate: for she hath rebelled against her GOD: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
O Israel, return unto The LORD Thy GOD; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the Ways of The LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them; but the transgressors shall fall therein.
Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of The LORD your GOD, and cry unto The LORD. Alas for the day! for The Day of The LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from The ALMIGHTY shall it come.
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My Holy Mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for The Day of The LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand:
Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.
And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter His Voice from Jerusalem:... Thus saith The LORD: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:....
Thus saith The LORD: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:....
And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith The LORD. Thus saith The LORD: For three transgressions of Judah and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised The Law of The LORD, and have not kept His Commandments....
Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
Behold, I AM pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves. Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself: Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself. And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith The LORD.
Hear this Word that The LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
For they know not to do right, saith The LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces. Therefore thus saith The LORD GOD: An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith The LORD GOD, The GOD of Hosts, That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground. And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith The LORD.
Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. The LORD GOD hath sworn by His Holiness, that, lo the days shall come upon you, that HE will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.
... : yet have ye not returned unto ME, saith The LORD.
... : yet have ye not returned unto ME, saith The LORD.
... : yet have ye not returned unto ME, saith The LORD.
I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, ...: yet have ye not returned unto ME, saith The LORD.
... : yet have ye not returned unto ME, saith The LORD.
Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy GOD, O Israel.
For, lo, HE that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth. The LORD, The GOD of Hosts, is His Name.
For thus saith The LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye ME, and ye shall live:....
Seek The LORD, and ye shall live: lest HE break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth, Seek HIM that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is His Name:....
Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor.... For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right. Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so The LORD, The GOD of Hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that The LORD GOD of Hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Therefore The LORD, The GOD of Hosts, The LORD, saith thus: Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas!...for I will pass through thee, saith The LORD. ...The Day of The LORD is darkness, and not light. .... Shall not The Day of The LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
...Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith The LORD, whose name is The GOD of Hosts.
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came. .... Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near:.... .... ...: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive.... The LORD GOD hath sworn by Himself, saith The LORD The GOD of Hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
...for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock: Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith The LORD The GOD of Hosts: and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of the wilderness.
Thus HE shewed me: and, behold, The LORD stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in His Hand. And The LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said The LORD, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of My People Israel: I will not again pass by them any more: And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
Therefore thus saith The LORD: ...and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
Thus hath The LORD GOD shewed unto ME: and behold a basket of summer fruit. And HE said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said The LORD unto me, The end is come upon My People of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more. And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith The LORD GOD; there shall be many dead bodies in every place....
Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail.... That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes.... The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely, I will never forget any of their works. Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood: and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith The LORD GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation...and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
Behold, the days come, saith The LORD GOD, that I will send a famine in the land...of hearing The Words of The LORD: ...and shall not find it. .... They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth: The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
I saw The LORD standing upon the altar: and HE said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. Though they dig into hell, thence shall Mine Hand take them: though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: .... And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set Mine Eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
And The LORD GOD of Hosts is HE that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: .... ...: The LORD is His Name.
Behold, The Eyes of The LORD GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth: saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith The LORD.
For, lo I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve.... All the sinners of My People shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
.... .... Behold, the days come saith The LORD...And I will bring again the captivity of My People of Israel...And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith The LORD thy GOD.
Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let The LORD GOD be witness against you, The LORD GOD from His Holy Temple. For, behold, The LORD cometh forth out of His Place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains, shall be molten under HIM, and the valleys shall be cleft as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel.
Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof. And all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of an harlot, and they shall return to the hire of an harlot.
For her wound is incurable; for it is come unto Judah; he is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.
Make thee bald, and poll thee for thy delicate children; enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.
And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. Therefore thus saith The LORD: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil. In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: HE hath changed the portion of my people: how hath HE removed it from me! turning away HE hath divided our fields.
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
The women of My People have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away My Glory for ever. Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink: he shall even be the prophet of this people.
And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know judgment? Who hate the good, and love the evil: ....
Then shall they cry unto The LORD, but HE will not hear them: HE will even hide His Face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
Thus saith The LORD concerning the prophets that make My People err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him. Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision: and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them. Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips: for there is no answer of GOD.
But truly I am full of power by The Spirit of The LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet will they lean upon The LORD, and say, Is not The LORD among us? none evil can come upon us. Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds: And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand: and thou shalt have no more soothsayers: Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands. And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities. And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
Wherewith shall I come before The LORD, and bow myself before The High GOD? shall I come before HIM with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will The LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
HE hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth The LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy GOD? The LORD's Voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Thy Name: hear ye The Rod, and Who hath appointed it.
Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.
...; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword. .... For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of My People.
The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net, That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward: and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up. The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.
Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is The LORD Thy GOD? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.
Notwithstanding, the land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings
GOD is jealous, and The LORD revengeth; The LORD revengeth, and is furious; The LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and HE reserveth wrath for His enemies. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked; The LORD hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
The mountains quake at HIM and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at His presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before His indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by HIM.
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and HE knoweth them that trust in HIM.
But with an overrunning flood HE will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies. What do ye imagine against The LORD? HE will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry. There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against The LORD, a wicked counseller.
... : I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.
He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face:.... For The LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: .... The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.
The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved. And Huzzab shall be led away captive....
But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.
Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture. She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.
Behold, I AM against thee, saith The LORD of Hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
WOE to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery: the prey departeth not:
The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots. The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
Behold, I AM against thee, saith The LORD of Hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock. And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea? Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite: Put and Lubim were thy helpers, Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy. All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater. Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars. Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln. There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the locusts.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away. Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.
There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
...for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously; for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces, that are not theirs. They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. Their horses also are swifter, than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat. They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold: for they shall heap dust, and take it.
...Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay! Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it, Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
...: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith The LORD. I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith The LORD.
I will also stretch out Mine Hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place.... .... And them that are turned back from The LORD: and those that have not sought The LORD, nor inquired for HIM.
Hold thy peace at the presence of The LORD GOD: for The Day of The LORD is at hand:....
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel. In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith The LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills. Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off. And it shall come to pass at that time that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will HE do evil.
Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation:....
The Great Day of The LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the Day of The LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.
And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against The LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of The LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: for HE shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of The LORD come upon you, before The Day of The LORD's anger come upon you. Seek ye The LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought His Judgment: seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in The Day of The LORD's anger.
The LORD will be terrible unto them: for HE will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship HIM, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen. Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by My Sword. And HE will stretch out His Hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.
This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! everyone that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand. WOE to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
She obeyed not the voice: she received not correction; she trusted not in The LORD; she drew not near to her GOD. Her princes within her are roaring lions: her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow. Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. The Just LORD is in the midst thereof; HE will not do iniquity: every morning doth HE bring His Judgment to light, HE faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant. I said, Surely thou wilt fear ME, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
Therefore wait ye upon ME, saith The LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for My determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them Mine indignation, even all My fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against ME: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of My Holy Mountain.
. So what ought the USofA to do, i.e., what ought the peoples of this nation to do to avert utter destruction of the nation? Perhaps something along the lines of what the Ninevites did when God pronounced judgment on them.
Now The Word of The LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before ME.
And The Word of The LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to The Word of the Lord, Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
So the people of Nineveh believed GOD, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto GOD: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Who can tell if GOD will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not.
And GOD saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and GOD repented of the evil, that HE had said that HE would do unto them; and HE did it not.
And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah King of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
